Andrew Neuman took a step toward his life goal when he decided to pursue his Master of Architecture and move with his wife and baby from Hawaii back to Vancouver. He knew the competition would be stiff, so he put a great deal of time and effort into his application to SALA, carefully describing his international experience and including photos and the dimensions of his major projects.
Neuman’s hard work paid off – he was accepted to SALA and awarded two Special UBC Graduate Entrance Scholarships totaling $5,000, as well as other financial support through bursaries.
“The scholarships I received were confirmation that I was doing the right thing,” said Neuman. “Scholarships are investment in students, which is a huge compliment.”
The scholarship motivated Neuman to do well in first year, and as he started second year with a three-year-old and fourth-month-old at home, he wished the same financial support was available. “I know the school really wants to help students who are excelling in the program, who put in the time and effort, and who need assistance,” he said.
Neuman is getting closer to his life goal of becoming a registered architect and returning to Hawaii. “UBC has a great reputation in Hawaii and away. My degree will open doors to excellent jobs in the future.”
