As we look to the future, we have identified a number of priorities requiring support for Materials Engineering to expand our top-tier educational programs and leading-edge research. Partnerships are critically important to ensure our students and researchers have access to up-to-date facilities and equipment, and to create opportunities for student learning outside the classroom. Please consider supporting Materials Engineering in the following priority areas:
Student Study and Laboratory Space
A functional space where students can study, collaborate on group projects, share ideas and socialize is integral to the university experience. It also helps to prepare students to effectively contribute within the collaborative structure of professional careers.
Student Activities and Field Trips Fund
Field trips to industry facilities and other co-curricular activities are indispensible learning opportunities for undergraduate engineering students. The opportunity for students to interact with industry professionals establishes career connections and inspires students to investigate specific topics in greater depth. The Student Activities and Field Trip Fund will ensure adequate financial support is available so all materials engineering students can participate in enriching activities outside the classroom.
Materials Engineering Building
Materials Engineering currently shares the Frank Forward Building, the oldest engineering building on campus, with Mining Engineering. A modern facility dedicated to materials engineering will facilitate collaboration within the department and improve the environment for student learning.
Equipment Upgrades
Students and researchers must have access to state-of-the-art, industry grade equipment to develop advanced materials that solve the real-world challenges of a wide range of industries.
