Support Applied Science

Engineering Student Centre

UBC’s engineering student population has quadrupled in the past 40 years, with about 4,500 engineering undergraduate students currently on the Vancouver campus. At the same time, the spaces available to students have remained essentially constant. As a result, the need for dedicated engineering student space is critical.

The new Engineering Student Centre at UBC Vancouver, which was designed specifically to meet the wide variety of student needs, will provide space for group work, learning, socializing, relaxing, and pursuing extra-curricular activities on campus. Open to students across every engineering discipline, the building will help to integrate engineering studies and facilitate networks among students that will enhance their professional lives.

The impact of dedicated student space on the lives and education of today’s students is so great that the undergraduate engineering students initiated a referendum and voted 75 per cent in favour of increasing student society fees to help fund the project, embracing the principles of UBC’s motto Tuum Est (It is yours / It is up to you).

Student fees will provide $2.5 million towards the new Engineering Student Centre, clearly demonstrating its great importance to students. An additional $2.5 million in support from donors is needed to make the project a reality.

For more information about the Engineering Student Centre, and how you and/or your organization can support this needed student space, please contact Debbie Woo, Senior Associate Director of Development, at 604.822.6856 or debbie.woo@ubc.ca. You can also donate online.
